Simulating CLIL lessons

Again with Liliane, we made a lot of activities to simulate two kind of lessons:
  • a history lesson
  • a science lesson
In the simulation we used the CLIL methodology.
In the afternoon we made a nice visit to the Botanic Gardens.

Using Reading Texts and Art in CLIL

Today, with Liliane, we made a lot of activities using written texts and arts to make a CLIL lesson.
We also used Internet resources during the lesson to get involved and interact among us. I have found quite interesting "quizlet.live", that allows the management of a competitive quiz.
In the afternoon we made a tour of the Guinness storehouse: it's for
tourists, and I have found it not so interesting.

Teaching history using CLIL

Students again. We acted as if we were students in a CLIL lesson about Irish history. Rachel gave us the instructions and the material. Again, we were highly involved and made a lot of interaction among us.
After that, Katie presented Internet resources about CLIL; and as usual we had an active role in the lesson.
I think that this is a good way to teach, but it requires for sure more time with respect to the traditional way.
In the afternoon we made a tour of the National Gallery.
What to say ... Mick, you are the best!

Planning lessons using CLIL

Our teacher, Katie, involved us in activities linked on how to plan lessons using CLIL.
We filled up some questionnaires and wrote a list of materials and techniques to use in the various steps of the planning project.
We were then divided in small homogeneous groups to discuss our work. After that in each group was introduced an English teacher, to compare and discuss the different points of view between content and language.
In the afternoon we made a tour of the National Museum. Our guide, Mick, was excellent as usual.

CLIL theory

Today we had a couple of lessons about CLIL theory.
The first teacher, Rachel, spoke about the development of theory and methodology in language learning.
After that Katie, another teacher, introduced the concept of CLIL.
They highly involved us during the lessons. with questionnaires, group work and Internet search.
In the afternoon we went to visit the Trinity College. I finally got the opportunity to see the Book of Kells, an ancient Bible with wonderful miniatures. Mick, our guide, was fantastic.

First school-day at Alpha College.

This is the first day of my CLIL course at Alpha College.
At the end of the day I can say that it was really good!
In the morning we met with the other students of the CLIL course: all of them are teachers, like us.
The course teacher, Katie Greig, is very good in managing the group, but she speaks very fast.
In the afternoon we made a guided tour of Dublin. Mick, our guide, is a very capable and nice teacher: he taught us a lot of things about the places and the history of Dublin in a pleasant and funny way

Three, two, one ... GOOOO!

And finally the starting day is arrived.
I'm ready to start this new experience, and I'm sure it will be a good one.
I'm going to take my flight at Treviso Airport; in a few hours I'll be at Dublin, Ireland.
The weather here in Venice is cloudy, and it's raining a little: Google tells me that in Dublin the weather is cloudy and the temperature is 14° C ... so, more or less, it seems to be like here.
